Four Questions With All Mankind

Sydney indie pop band All Mankind

Sydney-based indie pop act All Mankind have toured throughout Australia, the US & UK. Their latest release, ‘Puzzles’ includes the single ‘Can You Hear Me?’, which is currently receiving airplay in the US & UK. It was produced by ARIA-awardwinner David Nicholas (Elton John, Sting) and Peter Mayes of PNAU. Guitarist Dorny Mayes answered four questions for One Movement Word ahead of their One Movement Showcase Music Festival appearance.

Dorny, what’s your favourite song this week?

Empire of the Sun - Without You [the film clip version; embedded below].

This version has brought new energy to the song. We were lucky enough to work with the producer from Empire of the Sun, at the same time he was working on their album in the studio. He really helped us develop the post-pop sound that we continue to take to new heights with new material.

What do you hope to gain from the One Movement festival and conference?

We are just excited to be apart of One Movement, it is exciting to see a festival wanting to bring different areas of the music industry together. We always like meeting people passionate about music, whatever area they are in.

Which artists’ showcase sets are you most looking forward to watching?

Frankmusik will be great, he brings an amazing energy to the stage, he supported us in London while we were there. Also Tigarah, we did a TV appearance with her in LA earlier this year, she is wild and a lot of fun.

One Movement’s tagline is “Artist, Industry, Fan United.” What do you think needs to change in order to unite the music industry with its artists and fans?

There needs to be much more love to unite Industry, Artist and Fan. We try to bring the love back to music and is always exciting when others have the same vision. One Movement is definitely on the right track.

All Mankind play the Discovery Stage at 12.55pm on Sunday 18th October 2009 (full timetable here). A live video of their song ‘Can You Hear Me?’ is embedded below. Follow the band on Twitter and check out their official website at www.allmankind.net.
