Four Questions With Blue King Brown
Having shared the global stage with the likes of Santana, Damien ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, Julian Marley, The John Butler Trio and Michael Franti & Spearhead to name a few, the 11-piece reggae-roots collective Blue King Brown bring their cross- generational grooves and socially conscious sound to Perth for the One Movement Showcase Music Festival. Bassist and founding member Carlo Santone answered four questions for One Movement Word.
Carlo, what’s your favourite song this week?
We are in in writing mode, trying not to listen to too much other music and stay focused on creating rockin’ new original tracks, it’s been a while since we’ve had the space to really focus on writing, and some new songs are coming out that I am very happy with this week!
What do you hope to gain from the One Movement Festival and Conference?
In our worldwide travels we have met many amazing people, when fans and industry come together with one common interest of discovering great new music and sharing knowledge, great things can happen! I am coming to be part of that community, share my knowledge, play and share our music through a rockin live showcase, create opportunities and see what comes of it. As we are now travelling abroad more and more these sorts of events can lead to new territory’s opening up, that’s what we’re aiming for.
Which artists’ showcase sets are you most looking forward to watching?
Tigarah from Japan.
One Movement’s tagline is “Artist, Industry, Fan United”. What do you think needs to change in order to unite the music industry with its artists and fans?
Nothing needs to change, only one thing needs to continue, Bands need to keep writing great songs and delivering quality live performances, that’s what unites fan and band. The industry needs to stay passionate about good music and remain a visionary force to provide creative platforms for bands to deliver their music and therefore connect with their fans. We must all continue to evolve with the times, and not freak out because things ‘appear’ to be changing. Change and growth is natural, embrace it I say!!!
Blue King Brown headline the Crossover Stage at 8.35pm on Saturday, 17th October (full timetable here). Follow the band on Facebook and Twitter, and view a promotional video below.
