Fringe Festival: The Love Junkies Live At The Perth Esplanade
The hardest part of covering One Movement was that for every act I stopped to watch and record, there was two or three acts playing concurrently who I was unable to see.
Such was the case with much of the One Movement Fringe Festival, wherein hundreds of local artists set up their gear on Perth’s street corners and played to passers-by. With a full schedule, I rarely had the time to stop and take in their art, but in the case of Perth rock band The Love Junkies, I’m so glad that I did.
I passed the trio as they played outside the festival grounds, soon after Scribe finished. A couple dozens friends, family and unfamiliar spectators were watching their lively set. As the pedestrian light turned green, I walked across the street, while their music continued to fill the nearby surrounds. I stopped, walked back across the street, and stood transfixed by their rock sound, which struck me as a cross between Wolfmother’s stadium-rock, Brisbane band DZ’s party-starting thrash-punk, and the teen angst of Frogstomp-era Silverchair.
Awesome. Now I can’t get the bridge guitar riff out of my head. I don’t even know what this song is called. Thanks, Love Junkies! Check ‘em out on MySpace and triple j Unearthed.
