Five Minutes With: MUSEXPO speaker Carney Nir, Secret Service Digital
Meet Carney Nir, New Media Manager for Secret Service Artist Management (whose clients include Powderfinger, The Grates, Yves Klein Blue) and Dew Process Recordings (Sarah Blasko, The Panics, The Living End, Bluejuice). Carney’s role involves working on all facets of an artist’s digital campaign, for both album releases and tours.
Ahead of her guest speaking role at MUSEXPO Asia Pacific 2010 - following her appearance at last year’s event, on the Independent Times media panel - we asked Carney a few questions.
How did you start working in the music industry, Carney?
While at uni I did loads of work experience at labels, festivals and PR companies. When I finished I started at Scrabble PR in Brisbane, where I was lucky enough to work on music events like Livid as well as working with a number of Brisbane-based artists.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Seeing our artists’ records released is always a highlight – I couldn’t pick just one. So many months of work go into the album before it’s even released, so it’s always great to have it out there for people to hear.
I’ve also been lucky to work on some really fun campaigns that have involved people running around town doing some pretty crazy things – the Splendour In The Grass ticket hunt and Powderfinger guerilla gigs spring to mind in these instances!
What’s the hardest part of your job?
Fitting it all in!
What’s your favourite song of 2010 so far?
Can I have more than one? ’Want For Anything‘ by Ernest Ellis [video embedded below]. This song is just great.
And ‘Dead Nationale‘ by Parades [live video embedded below]. I love Parades and everything they do.
What are your predictions of artists you think will break through later this year?
Guineafowl, a great six-piece from Sydney. And DZ – see this band. You won’t regret it. [video for 'The Mess Up' embedded below]
What’s your favourite song by an Australian artist?
Well, my favourite karaoke song is ‘Never Tear Us Apart‘ by INXS… [video embedded below]
