OMFM 2010: Rolling Stone industry showcase program announcement

Industry showcase program presented by Rolling Stone; The Seed partnership announced

Perth, Australia – Monday, 6 September, 2010: In just one month from now, One Movement for Music Perth (OMFM) will take over Perth and the organisers are pleased to announce the final Industry Showcase program.

The live music component of OMFM, the One Movement Music Festival is unlike any festival the Southern Hemisphere has ever experienced with 17 international and 59 Australian artists playing unique 30-minute showcase sets, premiering their latest material to industry and fans alike in a full outdoor Festival setting over three days at Perth Esplanade. New artists announced today include Australia’s Koolism, Georgia Fair and MIYAVI (JPN).

One Movement For Music 2010 industry showcasesThe OMFM Industry Showcase component, presented by Rolling Stone, is an exciting opportunity to experience some great emerging talent up close and personal in intimate venues within the heart of Perth, hosted by some of the hottest music companies of today.

With more acts than last year, many of which are exclusive to the showcases, more venues, more days and more breaking bands, this really is a chance for emerging bands to shine. Acts from all over the world including USA, Canada, UK, Japan, Korea, Russia and India, plus a whole host of local bands will showcase their wares to the assembled heavy weights of the music industry.

This year OMFM Industry Showcases has commandeered new exclusive showcase venues including parking areas behind the Amplifier Bar and Dilettante Pour Homme et Femme. Adding to these unique urban One Movement venue spaces is the nearby cafe Tiger Tiger. Live music stomping grounds, the Amplifier Bar and Capitol are also new welcome additions to the 2010 showcase program.

The wonderfully converted Wolf Lane Carpark and boutique drinking spot, the Belgian Beer Cafe both will also see a return of great talent.

One Movement for Music is very excited to have a major record label in EMI Australasia on board to showcase their roster with great acts including MIYAVI (Japan) and Australia’s Pez, 360, Operator Please, Papa Vs Pretty, Miami Horror and Hungry Kids of Hungary.

OMFM will proudly host an opening night showcase, to exclusively welcome delegates and industry in ear-pleasing style. Live music hub, the Amplifier Bar, will feature the cream of WA musical talent, on Wednesday 6 October, in association with Xpress Magazine. The evening will showcase the array of aural variety that Perth continually produces including hip hop lyricist Drapht, electro new wave duo Voltaire Twins, blues wonders The Joe Kings, triple j favourites The Chemist, indie rockers Young Revelry and folk pop masters, Split Seconds.

New additions to OMFM showcases are RTRfm - Perth’s premier community radio station and local music advocates. With a focus on local management, labels and musical talent, the evening will showcase seven Perth-based management businesses and the bands they represent. The showcase will feature Cal Peck and The Tramps represented by Tyranocorp, The Growl represented by Bespoke Touring, Boom! Bap! Pow! of Monster Management, Emperors of Sweetmates, The Spitfires who proudly manage themselves, 6s & 7s of Love is My Velocity and a competition winner who will be chosen by RTR and their listeners.

OMFM conference partners A&R Worldwide are once again bringing some great acts to Perth including Drawn From Bees (Aust), Daniel Rata (Aust), Rubylux (UK), The Respectables (CAN), and Dzham (Russia).

Canadian Music Week is once again showing great support for OMFM with six amazing acts from Canada including Colin Moore (CAN), Matthew Barber (CAN), The Trews (CAN), Final Flash (CAN), Elliot Brood (CAN) and JP Hoe (CAN).

Joining again this year following remarkable results last year are Asia Sounds with Kadangyan (Phil), The Great Spy Experiment (Sing), The Circus (India), Biuret (Korea), Ze and Crew (Malaysia) and UhNellys (Japan).

The Dew Process showcase will feature new Australian favourites Guineafowl, Ernest Ellis and Delta Spirit alongside the highly respected singer songwriter Ben Kweller from the USA.

Sounds of the C showcase will also be bringing some fantastic acts from the UK in 2010 with Get Dexter, The Lost Souls Club (UK), Melodramas (UK) and Passenger (UK) all heading to Perth.

Liverpool Sound City have also kindly put their name to a showcase featuring Australian acts The Bloodpoets, OKA, The Salvadors and Blackchords.

Sound Advice from the UK will also be presenting a showcase with the UK’s Liz Green, India’s Raghu Dixit and Australia’s own Dan Sultan.

triple j radio logoThis year, One Movement for Music has teamed up with triple j Unearthed to bring nine acts over to Perth to be part of the event. Unearthed High winners Stonefield have already been announced for the festival, and will be joined by one band from each state and territory in Australia. The nine acts will perform in the big top at the One Movement Festival as well as at the exclusive Unearthed triple j showcase in front of all the music industry heavyweights. The winning acts will be announced mid-September.

OMFM will also be running a showcase venue of its very own throughout the event with exclusive acts from all over Australia including Ngaiire, MM9, Andy Bull, The Audreys, Jackson Firebird, Big Scary, Redcoats, Cameras, Metals, Jinja Safari, Eli Wolfe and Dead Letter Chorus.

Having supplied one of last year’s One Movement highlights with their closing night showcase, Street Press Australia (SPA) return to close One Movement in 2010. This year, the SPA closing night showcase features British India, rounding off a massive year that saw them explode into the charts with their raucous Avalanche set. Also on the bill this year is Redcoats, the Melbourne-based heavy rock outfit fast becoming the next buzz thing in Australia. Not enough? More bands to be announced soon.

Some of the artists have a double bite of the cherry as they are also performing at the One Movement Music Festival at The Esplanade over the weekend: Ben Kweller (USA), Dan Sultan (Aust), British India (Aust), Miami Horror (Aust), Drapht (Aust), Kadangyan (Phil), Raghu Dixit (India), Passenger (UK), Liz Green (UK), Gypsy & The Cat (Aust), Hungry Kids of Hungary (Aust), Biuret (Korea), The Chemist (Aust), Ze! (Malaysia), The Great Spy Experiment (Sing), Get Dexter (UK), Melodramas (UK), The Holidays (Aust) and Stonefield (Aust) will get a chance to play on the big stage and wow the audiences on the smaller ones.

OMFM also announced today a further program partnership with The Seed (formerly The JB Seed). The Seed, in partnership with One Movement, have created an initiative to support emerging managers, and their artists to progress to the next level of their careers. Ten previous JB Seed Management workshop attendees will be awarded the opportunity to attend OMFM. Participants will receive a complimentary registration and a contribution towards their travel and accommodation costs. Recipients will be announced in September.

Congratulations to Ngaiire, who has been selected from last year’s participants to perform at a One Movement showcase in 2010. This unique experience will be a platform for broad, creative and innovative thinking and an opportunity to strengthen the community of the emerging Australian music industry.
